Tiffany “Tattooz” Perez
New Jersey | Tattoo Artist | Ink Gallery
I am 30 years old and I am of Puerto Rican descent. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts at Montclair State University. After college, I went on to open up my own tattoo parlor, which has been open for four years now. This year, I was featured as the new cast member and tattoo artist on the TV show Black Ink on Vh1. My hobbies consists of dance, yoga and skin & hair care product making. As a Puerto Rican, dance and music have always been a very important aspect within my family and our culture. We are huge lovers of salsa dancing and during the holidays; specifically during Christmas -we throw a huge “Parranda”, in which the entire family comes together and celebrate all night by singing traditional songs, line dancing and playing instruments. Since we can’t celebrate in Puerto Rico we try to keep our “parranda tradition” alive in our households.
What have been your struggles as a Latina?
As a Latina, my struggles begin with stereotypes. Trying to get through the negative beliefs and assumptions of who and how a Latina woman should be. As a business owner and being a Latina female, it is much harder to considerately gain more respect and authority. We have to push three times harder, especially when it comes to being in a male dominated industry.
What does Latina Made mean to you?
It means being accepted for who I was born to be.
What made you who you are today?
Definitely my family, where I was born and raised and experiencing the difficult “life lessons” that I had to go through growing up, in order to make me a more wise and stronger woman.
What advice would you give to young Latinas in our community?
Make it a goal to truly Love yourself and value yourself, that way no one can ever bring you down! When you truly value who you are as a person -you are empowered, confident and develop an inner strength and self-compassion that can get you anywhere!
